Recuva – A great *free* deleted file recovery tool

From their site –  Recuva (pronounced “recover”) is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses! (This is the same company that brought us CCleaner) – Thanks to Lifehacker for the find.

The 5-click installation was a breeze and it seems to work well! An initial scan (and it was FAST!)produced this:

Not bad, although I didn’t find anything I couldn’t live without. I rarely delete files as I prefer to archive. (I work locally on my laptop, but use BestSync Folder Synchronizer to backup my stuff to the network on an hourly basis.) Recovery is as easy as it looks. If the file is recoverable, check the corresponding box, select recover, and select a destination for recovery. (It does not, by default, restore back into it’s original directory)  Let me know how it works for you? It would be a great little installer to carry around on a USB key in case you’re called to the CEO’s desk…
